ABOUT GREG FUNDIS ...
Greg Fundis is an American drummer based in Chicago IL with a career in music performance, recording and education spanning over three decades best known for his recent US & international tours with renowned tribute act Led Zeppelin 2. Fundis is a frequent collaborator with virtuoso jazz/classical guitarist and Blue Note Records artist Fareed Haque playing drums on 7 of his albums. Most recently, Fundis placed in the top 20 out of 10,000 drummers in a worldwide competition for the Grammy-nominated band Primus Intergalactic Drum Derby. Fundis played drums and has co-writing credit on R&B artist MATHIEN albums ‘mathien’ in 2022 and ‘If You Sing Loudly Enough, No One is Ever Gonna Hear You” in 2020. Fundis appears in the drumline on EDM DJ sensation Two Friends’ 2023 live concert film release “Big Bootie Mix Vol. 23 Big Bootie Land Chicago Premiere”. As a recording artist, Fundis has played on over 100 albums with various independent artists & record labels. He is a founding member of 56 Hope Road, an award-winning acoustic funk americana jamband who independently produced four full length albums All Points Connect (2002) Drop It All (2004) Once in our Lives (2005) Law of Attraction (2008) and performed over 1200 live shows over the course of five years touring in the mid 2000’s. Fundis has performed on stage internationally with other notable artists in a multitude of genres including George Benson, Joey DeFrancesco, Roy Hargrove, Paquito D’Rivera, Two Friends, Neal Francis, Nick Lutsko, Mathien, Vikku Vinayakram, V. Selvaganesh, Salar Nader, Maurice Brown, Freekbass, Comedian Rich Little, Louis Bellson, Joe Lovano, Tom Harrell, Bob Brookmeyer, Robert Irving III, Tony Monaco & Ray White. Fundis has a Masters Degree in Jazz Studies from DePaul University and a Bachelors from Millikin University. While at Millikin, at the age of 19, Fundis’ book of original compositions "Contemporary Audition Solos for Percussion" was published by one of the world’s largest music education publishing companies Alfred Music. In addition to relentless performing, Fundis has taught at Roosevelt and DePaul universities, Whitney Young High School and currently coordinates summer drumming and music camps for over 3,000 youth throughout the Chicagoland area. His teachers and mentors have included Steve Smith (Journey), jazz legend Louis Bellson, drum legend Jim Chapin, music educators Brian Justison and Kim Klickna. Greg Fundis has developed a unique voice & style on the drums that exudes a positive spirit, sensitivity & virtuosity that elevates the vibe at every live performance and recording session. Greg Fundis’ live drum performances have garnered adoration from music critics described by the Chicago Tribune as “high velocity, hard driving improvisations” by jambands .com as “clean and articulate, possessing power, precision and an unwavering endurance", the A.V. Club proclaimed that “Greg Fundis can execute a commanding minutes-long drum solo that would make John Bonham green with envy" & the Illinois Times said Greg Fundis plays "fabulous grooves that get your body going and make you feel good.“ Greg Fundis is a signed endorsee of Vic Firth drumsticks since 2008 as well as Humes and Berg cases since 2017. Fundis plays Ludwig drums exclusively and both Paiste & Zildjian brand cymbals.
